1954

1957 

The Department of Sociology was set up in personnel and the Department of Biochemistry ( Biochemistry andMolecular Biology )in the Faculty. 

Iqbal Hall was set up, renamed as Sgt. Zahurul Huq Hall in 1972 

1959 

Branch of Library Science was opened (renamed as the Department of Information Science and Library Management) in the Faculty of Arts. 

The Bureau of Economic Research, shaped by a few educators in 1956, was authoritatively perceived. 

1960 

The Faculty of Commerce was presented as a noteworthy territory of concentrate at the University. 

1961 

The Institute of Education and Research was built up in the University of Dhaka. 

1962

1967 

Haji Muhammad Mohsin Hall was built up. 

1969 

The Institute of Nutrition and Food Sciences was made. 

The University of Dhaka assumed a noteworthy job in the self-sufficiency development of 1969. 

1970 

The Faculty of Social Science was built up including the Departments of Economics, Political Science, Sociology, International Relations and Public Administration. 

Staff of Commerce (presently Business Studies) was made with the opening of Accounting (presently Accounting and Information Systems) and Man­agement (presently Management Studies)Depart­ments in the Faculty. 

1971 The time of Independence 

The University made preeminent penances with four­teen educators, one officer, twenty six workers, and several understudies of the college losing their lives in the war for the Independence of Bangladesh. 

The second ladies Hall, Shamsunnahar Hall was built up. 

The University finished its second period of advancement and began the third period of developmentwiththeemergenceofthe People's Republic of Bangladesh. 1972 

TheDepartment of Applied Chemistry (presently Applied Chemistry and Chemical Engineering) was opened in the Science Faculty and the Depart­ment of Public Administration in the Faculty of Social Sciences. 

1973 

The Dhaka University Order, 1973 came into power whereby the popularity based standards and independence wound up indispensable highlights of the University. The Institute of Social Welfare and Research was built up. 

1974 

The Institute of Modern Languages began func­tioning in the University. 

The Faculty of Biological Sciences was set up with the Departments of Soil Science (presently Soil, Water and Environment), Botany, Zoology, Biochemistry (presently Biochemistry and Molecular Biology), Psychology and Pharmacy. The Departments of Finance (later Finance and Banking) and Marketing were built up in the Faculty of Commerce. The Bureau of Business Research began working. 

1976 

Kabi Jashimuddin Hall and Sir A.F. Rahman Hall were set up. The Bose Center for Advanced Studies and Research in Natural Sciences was opened. 

1979 

The Department of Microbiology was presented in the Faculty of Biological Sciences. 

1980 

The Department of Islamic Studies began func­tioning as a free personality in the Faculty of Arts. The CentreforAdvancedStudiesand Research in Biological Sciences, Dev Center for Philosophical Studies and the Center for Advanced Research in the Humanities were set up. 

1981 

TheRenewableEnergyResearch Center was opened. 

1983 

The Institute of Fine Arts was added to the Univer­sity. 

1984 

The Center for Advanced Study and Research in Social Sciences was set up. 

1985 

The old "Get together Hall" of the then East Pakistan Provincial Government later comprising a piece of the Jagannath Hall crumbled on October 15 that prompted the demise of 26 understudies of the Hall and 14 workers and visitors. The day has been recog­nized as the "College of Dhaka Mourning Day", watched each year in memory of the withdrew spirits. 

The Semi-conductor Technology Research Center and the Biotechnology Research Center were opened in the University. 

1987 

Organic Nitrogen Fixation Research Unit involv­ing the Center for National Research Scientific (CNRS), France and the Department of Soil Science, University of Dhaka was built up. 

1988 

Muktijoddha Ziaur Rahman Hall and Bangabandhu Sheik Mujibur Rahman Hall were estab­lished. In 2014 renamed as Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheik Mujibur Rahman Hall. The Nazrul Research Center and the Archives and History Research Center were opened. 

1989 

Bangladesh Kuwait Maitree Hall, a third quarters for the female understudies and the Institute of Busi­ness Administration Hostel were built up. DisasterResearchTrainingandManagement Center in the Department of Geography and Envi­ronment was built up. 

1990 

The Delta Study Center in the Department of Geol­ogy began working. 

1992 

The Department of Computer Science (presently Com­ber Science and Engineering) the Department of etymology and the Department of Anthropology began functioningin the Faculty of Science, Faculty of Arts and Faculty of Social Sciences individually. 

1993 

Nabab Faizunnessa Chowdhurani Chhatrinibash (Hostel) was built up for the female M.Phil and Ph. 

D.students of the University. 

1994 

The Department of Theater and Music was built up in the Arts Faculty of the University. The exploration Center for Liberation War was made. 

1995 

Workforce of Pharmacy was built up including the division of Pharmacy. The Center for Development and Policy Research was set up. 

Trade Faculty was renamed as the Faculty Business Studies. 

1996 

Community for Bio-restorative Research was built up. 

1997 

The Department of World Religions and the Department of Clinical Psychology had started in the Faculty of Arts and the Faculty of Biological Sciences individually. 

1998 

Branch of Aquaculture and Fisheries (renamed as the Department of Fisheries) began in the Faculty of Biological Sciences. 

The Institute of Health Economics was opened in the University of Dhaka. Likewise the Center of Excellence for Advanced Research in Physical, Chemical, Biological and Pharmaceutical Sciences was begun. 

1999 

The Department of Population Sciences and the Department t of Peace and Conflict Studies were opened in the Faculty of Social Sciences. 

2000 

The Department of Genetic Engineering and Bio-innovation and the Department of Women Studies (renamed as the Department of Women and Gender Studies) were set up in the Faculty of Social Sciences and the Faculty of Social Sciences separately. Nazmul Karim Study Center in the Department of Sociology and the Center for Cultural Development Research of Bangladesh were built up. 

The Begum Fazilatunnessa Mujib Hall (the fourth ladies Hall) and the Amar Ekushey Hall were set up. 

2001 

The Institute of Information Technology was opened in the University of Dhaka. The Center for Development and Institutional Stud­ies, the Dr. Sirajul Haque Islamic Research Center, the Center for Education Research and Training and a Center of Excellence for Advanced Research in Arts and Social Sciences were set up. 

2002 

The Department of Development Studies began working in the Faculty of Social Sciences. The Japan Study Center and Language Teaching Center were made in the University of Dhaka. The Department of Mass Communication and Jour­nalism went under the Faculty of Social Sciences from the Faculty of Arts. 

2003 

The Pharmacy Department had part into the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Depart­ment of Clinical Pharmacy and Pharmacology, and the Department of Pharmaceutics and Pharmaceu­tical Technology for Masters Programs, with the Honors Program under the Faculty itself. The Dhaka University Cyber Center was set up. The Department of Banking and the Department of Management Information Systems (MIS) were set up in the Business Studies Faculty. The Arts Computer Center and the Center for Governance Studies appeared in the University of Dhaka. 

2004 

College and Industry Alliance was set up in the Institute of Business Administration. 

2005 

Bangladesh-Australia Center for Environmental Research was set up in the Department of Soil, Water and Environment. 

The Center for Corporate Governance and Finance Studies and the Center for Microfinance and Devel­opment began working in the college. 

2007 

The Department of Tourism and Hospitality Manage­ment and the Department of International Business were opened in the Faculty of Business Studies. 

2008 

The Faculty of Earth and Environmental Sciences, The Faculty of Engineering and Technology and The Faculty of Fine Arts were opened. The Department of Biomedical Physics and Technology was opened in the Faculty of Science. 

The Department of Theoretical Physics was resusci­tated in the Faculty of Science. A 2-Year Regional Masters Program in Journalism, Media and Communication started at the Depart­ment of Mass Communication and Journalism in organization with The Oslo University College, Norway; The University of Punjab, Pakistan and College of Journalism and Mass Communication, Nepal. Instructors and understudies from all these accomplice nations participate in educating and figuring out how to this Program. 

The Center for Administrative Research and Innova­tion, The Center for Interreligious and Intercultural Dialog; The Center for Buddihist Heritage and Culture and the Center for Trade and Investment appeared. 

2009 

The Department of Theater and Music is isolated into two Departments, in particular The Department of Theater and the Department of Music. The Center for Disaster and Vulnerability Studies was built up. 

2010 

The Center for Genocide Studies was built up. Bureau of Educational and Counseling Psychol­ogy under the Faculty of Biological Sciences. The Renewable Energy Research Center was changed over as the Institute of Renewable Energy. The Government of Bangladesh has chosen to handover the Bangladesh College of Leather Technology to the University of Dhaka for changing it into an Institute of the University. 

The Kotler Center for Marketing Excellence (KCME) was built up. 

2012 

Two new Departments were opened under the Faculty of Earth and Environmental Sciences. The Department of Oceanography and the Department of Disaster Science and Management. The Institute of Disaster Management and Vulner­ability Studies and The Institute of Leather Engineer­ing and Technology have been set up. It might be noted here that the Bangladesh College of Leather Technology was given over by the Government to the University for changing it into an independ­ent establish under Dhaka University. Two focuses, to be specific The Scandinavian Study Center and The East Asia Study Center were set up. 

2013 

The Department of Criminology was opened in the Faculty of Social Sciences. 

Three research Centers, to be specific the Center on Budget and Policy, the Center for Policy Research on Business and Development and the Center for Climate Change Study and Resource Utilization were set up. 

2014 

Four new Departments were opened at the Univer­sity. These are: Department of Dancing under the Faculty of Arts, Department of Applied Mathematics under the Faculty of Science, Department of Com­munication Disorders under the Faculty of Social Sciences and Department of Pharmacy under the Faculty of Pharmacy. Six Research Centers, to be specific The Center for English Teaching and Research, The Chromosome Research Center, Center of Excellence for Teaching and Learning, Center for Culture and Resilience Studies, Center for Bioinformatics Learn­ing Advancement and Systematics Training were set up and Air Quality Research and Monitoring Center has been set up at the Advance Research in Sciences (CARS).
